What Do You Think?

It isn’t what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about.  Dale Carnegie

What Do You Think?

What Do You think About? Are you aware of the major thoughts you have in a day’s time? What do you think about? Do you think positive, happy thoughts? Do you think negative, angry thoughts? Do you think both kind of thoughts?

The above quote from Dale Carnegie really caught me by surprise. I’m not usually aware of my thoughts most of the time. Sometimes, yes, I am VERY aware of what I’m thinking. When I’m aware of my thoughts it’s because I’m mad at the world. Ooohh, that’s when I really don’t want to think about what I am thinking.

But if it’s not who we are or where we are that makes us happy or unhappy, then what is it about our thoughts that does?

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in a good or neutral mood first thing in the morning only to have some a#%hole pull out in front of me so close that I nearly hit them and BAM, my thoughts turn dark and my whole mood changes. Then the day spirals downward. Am I the only one that this has happened to?

I don’t think the quote is meant to shed light on just one day or even a week, but your general thought patterns over a lengthy period of time. I’ve been paying close attention to my thoughts over the last few weeks and I’m beginning to think I’m a grasshopper. Jeez, my mind goes from zero to sixty in a matter of seconds. It’s frustrating when I can’t calm my mind down and my thoughts race from one subject to another.

It’s at those times when my thoughts are racing like crazy that I struggle with keeping them on track and focused. I try hard to keep my thoughts on a positive path, but sometimes they quickly turn down the dark and endless path and I can feel the spiral happening. It goes so fast I just can’t seem to stop it.

I’ve been a subscriber of  TUT.com for quite some time and the tag line on that site is “Thoughts become things – choose the good ones®.” YES, I CHOOSE GOOD THOUGHTS EVERY CHANCE I GET! But there are those times when I struggle with angry, dark thoughts leading me down a frustrating path that dead ends every time.

SNAP! What Do You Think About?

I try to come back, but the zero to sixty thing kicks in and suddenly, my mind meanders – nay – dashes about – and I’m thinking about things that should have been long forgotten. And there goes my mood. What Do You Think About?

Truth be told, I’m tired of one mood zipping into another. It’s exhausting, draining and makes you old before your time. I just want to be in a good mood. I do. What to do?

It starts with those thoughts. I’m working – struggling – to focus my thoughts to the positive side because I know they become things. And I want good things. Bad thoughts do NOT turn into good things. They never have and they never will. What Do You Think About?

It takes strength, willpower, meditation and every ounce of focus I can muster. And sometimes that focus fails me (especially when I try to meditate). But I wake up every day and start all over again because I want the good thoughts to turn into good things and I am a firm believer in your reality reflecting what you think about most.

Don’t let outside, uncontrollable persons/places/things control your moods. Find your happy place, reach for the thought that makes you feel better; find the let’s pretend moment every single day because it’s the let’s pretend moments that eventually turn into reality.

I’m thinking my reality is happy and I hope your reality is as good as what you think. =)

Leap Fearlessly!
